Car rental for Blue Bay and Sint Michiel
A stay in Blue Bay or Sint Michiel can be combined with outings to Willemstad and the western side of Curaçao. Blue Bay is west of Willemstad. Use this guide to decide when you need a car and which drives you want to combine; arrange the rental car handover separately.
Start with your accommodation in Blue Bay or Sint Michiel
Note the address of your accommodation as provided by the accommodation provider. Also save the arrival instructions: an area name is not always enough to find the right entrance. Use that information to prepare your route, not to assume a handover location for the rental car.
Next, distinguish between days around your accommodation and days when you want to explore the island. This helps you choose a rental period without planning every holiday day in the same way. A quiet beach day calls for different planning than a combination of city and west coast.
Blue Bay Beach and the surrounding area
Blue Bay Beach is listed as a beach destination on the Curaçao Tourist Board website. If you want to go there, check the location’s current visitor information beforehand. Access to accommodation and access to a beach are separate arrangements; do not assume one reservation takes care of the other.
You can use Sint Michiel and Blue Bay as starting points for your own plans. If in doubt, establish the exact location before setting off.
Plan a city day in Willemstad separately
Want to visit Punda, Otrobanda or Pietermaai? Choose a starting point and consider which parts you want to explore on foot. Do not automatically fill a city day with extra beach stops: leaving room for a walk or a break makes the plan less dependent on the clock.
Piscadera is another destination on the western side of Willemstad. Use the separate guide if you are staying there or want to include the bay in your plans; it is not another name for Blue Bay.
From Blue Bay to Bandabou
For an outing towards Bandabou, choose your main stop in advance. Cas Abou and Coral Estate are in the regional west coast guide. Playa Kalki is near Westpunt and is not in the immediate vicinity of Blue Bay; combine that beach choice with other western plans.
Before setting off, check the route, your fuel and the current information for your chosen destination.
Choose a car based on your travel plan
Compare the number of seats and the space you need for your luggage on arrival. A car that comfortably holds two beach bags does not automatically have enough room for all your group’s suitcases. Look at the specifications of the individual car rather than just the category name.
If you are arriving by plane, read the Hato Airport page. Staying in Blue Bay does not turn that preference into a guaranteed vehicle choice.
